I have a 12 gal nano cube i will be taking down soon and was wondering, if this could be turned int o a frag tank, and if so ,what is the least lighting you can have for a frag tank?

Depends what you are trying to grow.

I'm using 130w PC-R 12k on my frag tank as a temp light and it's growing SPS/LPS/Zoas just fine.

Like Kray mentioned depends on what lighting you have, but it can easily be done

Yeah, just keep in mind what you want to see yourself as well...

Do you want to grow grow grow??? Do you want color pop or what?

Bulb choice will make a big difference.

I want to be able to grow all types of coral.

And i would like for the corals to grow fast and the color pop...

But thenicest lighting for a 12 gal would be nice...Around how much does that cost?

This might be a summer project...

Too many options... you can get creative with it. Still, boils down to what you want in the long run. Lets throw PCs out the window while we are ahead... this pretty much leaves T5, LED and Metal Halide. Each can be very different in many ways...including cost. What are you looking for in a light other than being able to grow anything? Looks? Heat? Bulb choice/replacement? controls? These factors are important :)

Well i was thinking a t5 fixture of some sort would be nice and then led lights on seperate timers. But how many t5s do you have to have to give enought lights for all corals?

ok its called nano cube dx, 12 gal. So ill look into it

I looked at the but alot of them are really expensive and I almost rater just have the light fixture,no lid or anything...

What t5 fixtures fit good on 12 nano cubes?

What is the width of those things? You best bet would be to try and find a fixture used. Most of the fixtures will have a way to hang them so if it is wider then the tank it will be fine.

I mean for a 12 gallon if you can find a good deal on the 70W Viper MH that would work perfect. Grow anything you want/ Clips on the back of the tank. Just have to watch out about heat. But depending on what temp of the room the tank is in you might have to get a little desk clip on fan.

here are some pic's of my little frag tank just to give you some thing to see as a set up

This tank ^ is exactly what i want to do... how much did all of the equipment, not including the sump, cost?

Might just do basically the same except remove the lid of the 12 gal,add clip on light, fan, and buy some frag racks...

the sump is just any old tank the BRS carbon /gfo about 60 buck's skimmer just had laying around but with that size tank you could get a smaller one and the light i think $150 IMO if you want to go this way just go bigger if you can im going bigger as you can see it fill's up fast i don't think you will need a skimmer with no bio load i did put a tang and a blennie it it to help with any hair alge

I was going to put a shrimp goby or something in the tank.... ifound a 70w viper for around $150....

Also for an led light fixture, what is the best fixture that isnt hundreds of dollars that would completly cover a 12 gal nano?

i have not gone with LED's yet cuz i like my M/H i think all coral look's better IMO but looking for more info on LED before i go that way too new for me ive spent $$$$$$$$$$ on stuff that don't work we will see on the LED's
