For the last 12 months or so I have not measured anything other than alk. I mean, a very sporadic (once or twice in the last year) potassium test and that is it.

Any others share similar experience?

Well, what I am trying to say is that I believe that if there is no major problems with a system, other tests are not necessary.

I test alk every day. I use it to gauge when and how much kalk I add to my dispenser.

I dose 2 part so I measure alk every other day or so and dose the same volume of Alk and Ca.

Maybe I was a little misleading. I do measure temperature, pH and ORP (from the apex). I also measure salinity.

I have not tested Ca, NO3, NO2, NH3, Mg, PO4 for about 12 months. These are the tests that I believe are either not very important (unless you are trying to solve a problem), or for some of them (NO3 and PO4) you will have an idea of their value just by observing the tank.

Ahhh testing is for newbies. up until recently when I got a good deal on test kits I went 3 years with out checking anything but salinity and I dose a 2 part and when I finally tested all was good as I figured since everything was growing and colorful. I also only do 2 maybe 3 water changes a year. tank is a 150 gallon with 40 gallon sump and 280lbs of tonga and Fiji liverock I've had for 16 years. the best part is I've never had a tank crash in the 17-18 years I've had a marine tank
