12" Purple Vase Sponge (now shipping)

Sadly my prized ultra cool purple vase sponge is too big for my little biocube so this is your rare chance to purchase a show sized colony of a photosynthetic sponge! This sponge is about 3 years old in my tank and has been growing the whole time.


It has been in my seahorse tank for the entire 3 years and is still growing rapidly. It loves my ~3 year old compact fluorescent stock biocube bulbs and the minimal minimal flow of the seahorse tank. It seems to be pretty hardy and has never had any problems with any parameter swings or temperature swings. Although I have accidentally removed frags of this type of sponge from the water before with no issues I do not recommend exposing it to air just to be safe. The sponge is now slightly over 12" in diameter and all holes have filled in completely.


Remember it is photosynthetic!


I am selling it as a colony and it WILL NOT be fragged.

For shipping, I have a nice stash of Diver's Den Boxes (decked out with "Live Tropical Fish" all over the sides) complete with nice styro insulated boxes inside. I will also place some cut up black plastic in the bag with the sponge to help support it. I can get heat packs if you want them.

I have seen this piece and its much too pretty and rare to cut up. The money seems like a lot but people pay that for stuff all the time. When have you ever seen a 12 inch sponge growing in a tank. It looks like it is growing in the ocean in the caribbean. Sure there are some nice 3 inch pieces of some encrusting sponge or an amazing one that will die but this one is a cup and has grown since a 3 inch piece in the aquarium. If only I had room
