I have a 120 gallon that is 5'x 18"x 29". Because of the stand I am not able to do a overflow and it is not drilled. So what should I do as far as filtration? Hang on filters or canister filter? I have had very good success before with hang on filters in smaller saltwater tanks but I know i would need double the filtration. So what would yall recommend?

Tons of live rock with lots of water movement a reef octopus hob skimmer. I would rather use a hob filter for mechanical than a canister due to ease cleaning. If you dont clean canister often nitrates will skyrocket

It'a combination of their 9012 skimmer, 3162 media filter (i.e. floss, carbon, gfo, whatever) and 3155 auto-top-off...plus it's packed in a nice 7-gallon ATO reservoir. :)

It's all magnetically mounted to the inside of the tank.

The ATO sensors mount inside the 3162 filter unit.

All takes up less space than a drain box in a drilled tank. Just over $600 for the complete combo.

Very slick.

I plan on using 80 lbs of live sand. No live rock absolutely hate live rock. I honestly don't know about skimmers. To me they don't do anything and I've never used one either. I mean I'm not against them i just don't see them ever doing anything.

Not bad but it said it was for aquariums up to 65 gallons.

I honestly like the idea of doing a refugium but I know if I do one to actually really do any good the refugium should be the same size as the display or bigger. But because of my stand I am not able to do a refugium

Another thing what type.of lighting do yall recommend? It has to be strong enough to penetrate down 3' to 3 1/2'

Could you please shoot a picture of the thank and stand please. I would like to wrap my mind around this one

There was one of these brand spanking new at one of my LFS not too long ago for like $250. I can check if it's still there.

Sure right now it has cichlids in it but trying to convince my lady to let me go back to saltwater

That may also have been the "250" model.

You can tell by the lid on the filter module which it is. The 250 has an additional hole in the lid of the filter module to house a heater that the 500 lacks.

Also, the 25o lacks the ATO that comes with the 500. (And the 500 is also a fair bit larger, but you may have to see them side-by-side to know that. ;))

Skimmers definitely help. I pull 2 cups of nasty crap out mine every other day. I couldn't believe how clear my water got when i got my first good skimmer.

Same here. Skimmer helps a lot! Im using a Hydor Slim Skim...
