120 peninsula build

Coming along nicely here. Took several hours tho figure out how the rocks went together when I mocked it up. I finally figured it out. Now I need to make more water for finish filling her up. Went to my LFS today to check it out. They opened the year I tore down my last system. It is very nice, they just expanded. Had a great selection of fish and corals! They ordered some sand for me. It should be here next week! It's like $15 cheaper/20lbs bags than BRS! I was shocked.

Wow good work. I am fallowing now. Congrats on the upcoming baby. I am in the same boat as you but this is my number 2 kid. Do you know if it's a boy or girl?My tank has nothing on yours. But when we build the new house I may do the same as you. Good luck man.

I'm going to have to rearrange my rock work a little. Last night I had a hard time falling asleep and thought a lot about my aquascape. I have a pretty good idea of where the rock scape is headed so I'm gonna take a stab at starting it tonight after work. Have a little bit of cutting to do. The water is starting to clear a bit. I think once I have the tank full, and the sump and refugium full and everything flowing it will really clear up. Right now everything is soaking in it's own filth. @dbl inspired me to rethink things thanks for that!

Can I make a suggestion? I would say get a Marineland Magnum 350 ( it is incredible) to cleanup the fine silt and muck and then have it for emergencies or your QT.

Congratulations that's so exciting! It's a game changer for sure, I can't wait!
Good Idea, well sort of. I'm not gonna lay down that kind of cash. But I do have a HOB filter already that I was gonna use for my QT that I may be able to use. I will check it out tonight!

@fragit i have not read all the way through ur build yet I'm still on page two where we found out ur having a baby congrats btw. I plan on reading the rest but I have a question for u. With having a full basement for ur set up why would u only limit ur self to a 40 gallon sump? U could have put in like a 200 gallon Rubbermaid container and sectioned off a fuge and all. Is there a reason u want the two 40 gallons? If I had all that room I would take advantage of it. Either way I wish u nothing but greatness on this build.

Thanks for the congratulations and comments @justingraham! Nice to have you along for the ride, hope you enjoy the rest of the thread! To answer you question about the sump, and refugium....

When I got the okay to set up a tank in the new house I was planning on doing a 60gal cube in a totally different location. Back in January I think, I got the 40 for my sump at a $1/gal sale. At some point my wife and I were watching tanked and there was an I. Wall that she thought was awesome. From there things evolved to the current 120.

At some point in the future we want to finish half the basement, and create a lot of storage space and a walk up entry to the back yard. So I don't have all that much space. I also wanted some flexibility with the refugium and sump. I also wanted them to be separate so that the fuge can act as a display in the basement.

I did entertain the idea of a Rubbermaid. I just like things to be a bit more modular I guess. In my mind it's easier for maintenance and trouble shooting.

So I fired the tank up tonight at 10pm no less when I should have gone to bed. Anyway got the synergy overflow dialed in to the pump. Pump is wide open, I'm getting great flow in the DT. The Sea-Swirl is really cool, I love it definitely with the investment. The overflow is great to no gurgle at all once it's tuned. My one criticism is that I can still hear water falling through the teeth of the weir on the internal box. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be like that or not I will have to do some research. I thought it was supposed to be completed silent. The full siphon has no problems keeping up with the pump. Not sure the wife is gonna like the sound of water trickling all the time. I will have to spend more time and figure it out. I'm done for the evening! It's running!

Okay @USMC4Life, and everyone else who is wanting to see, here are some crappy pics for you. Sorry, I don't have my lights yet, and it's early here in Maine and the sun is still behind the trees at my property. I set up my Spectrapure ATO last night, I've never had an ATO before man is it slick! Still getting the salinity up should be at 1.025 today, temp is stable at 76.7 will raise just a little. I think I figured out the trickle sound issue. There is a whole lot of surface agitation from the sea swirl. I think that's what's causing the noise. So I need a nozzle, I emailed Ed at sea swirl last night hopefully I hear back today. Orphek lights will be ordered today also.

I am so going to enjoy this vicariously through you. As I don't have room for anything. Hell I had to downgrade and now I am running two canister filters because I have no room for a sump or a refugium.
