120 stand height

How will you be viewing your tank the most? If its from a standing position I would say 36"-42". If its next to a couch or chair and you will be sitting most of the time then I would stay around30"-36", my opinion anyways.

Gotta agree with Big B. All depends on how you are viewing it the most. I built the stand under my 120 and was dictated by room, in wall build. Thought it was way low till we put a couch right in front. Perfect height to sit there and stare, but low to stand and watch.

You also should consider how much room you will need under the stand for maintenance.
If you're going to have a sump with a skimmer, make sure you can easily get access to cleaning the skimmer and removing the collection cup.

I built my stand at 36"H for my 120gal.
Good height for sitting or standing viewing, but if I need to reach to the bottom of the tank I need to stand on a small step stool.

I built one at 40" to bottom of my 120. It's perfect for standing but understand, unless you are very tall with very long arms, you will need a small ladder to reach the bottom of the tank, assuming yours is a standard 48x24x24 120.

Remember the higher you make the stand. Harder to reach and clean the tank. On the another end if setting up sump. You need height for skimmer or equipment. So make sure you know the height so the tank isn't to low. Think it out before you build one.

Absolutely agree. I want to think through and plan before I build. I would need a small ladder if built at 40". If built at 40" I would have plenty of room for the sump area

Mine is 48x24x24 and I built my stand at 45" to the bottom of the tank. You have to get a chair if you want to reach the bottom of the tank. Pretty much have to get a chair to reach in the tank period. I don't mind cause I think it's perfect for viewing. There is plenty of room underneath in the sump area.

Thanks. Any pics?

41" worked out perfect for me. Thats a 55 gallon refugium/sump.
