I've got to completely replumb my 120g DT due to the fact I'm adding a UV sterilizer. It's designed with two overflows, both with 1" and a 1¼" bulkheads. Obviously designed for Dorso drains. My questions for the guru's is....#1, is the Herbie style drains that much quiter? #2.... will my flow thru my sump going to increase substantially? And #3.... if i were to go with the Herbie style wuthering the return going over the back of the aquarium, would you use the 1¼" bulkheads as the main drain and the 1" bulkhead as the emergencies?

I don't think it matters which is the main. The main will get restricted by a gate valve at the bottom, and either should handle the flow. Slight lean to 1 1/4 as main.
I have not heard durso,, but my herbie is quiet, such that I only hear the return pump now.

#1- much quieter because you remove all the air going through the main drain.
#2-the flow will increase and that’s a good thing. I’ve never used flow meters so I can’t say by how much.
#3 yes I would use the 1 1/4 for the main. But the 1 inch would work well for the 120g. I like a lot of flow in the sump so I went with three 1 1/4” drains on my bean animal
