What did you use, chemipure or something ?
I used some Korallenzucht products that I have laying around.
Zeozym in combination with Zeobak. This one gives the milky appearance for a while till the skimmer takes it out.
Last week I also added A-balance and follow this up with CyanoClean with some daily drops. Also from the KZ line.

Since I removed the biggest part of the cyano last weekend and added the products, it does not seem to come back. The remaining parts are slowly getting smaller.
So far, so good.
 
I am so sorry Jan, It is really sad what is happening to your tank, Hope you resolve all the issue and the tank make a quick recovery.
 
I’ve just re read the last few pages leading up to the cyno removal products being added, and just wondered what you think the cause of it was ?

Just thinking ‘out load’ so to speak, you said in a previous post that you were adding bacteria from a bottle to replace those that may be killed by the UV-C. Most of the good bacteria lives in the live rock, rather than the water column so wouldn’t be killed or removed by this.

I’m just wondering what your Nitrate levels were at at the time of the cyno outbreak from the point of view was it very low with the additional bacteria and so low that cyno began to thrive ?

Just a thought......

I read a lot about cya o in past weeks and one states that it comes up when parameters make a huge swing.
So my alk rise might have triggered the existing/sleeping cyano to get a spur.
Besides that I was dosing NO3 till about 4ppm. This change might also have caused it after having NO3 at zero level for a long time.

Now after the last cleaning cyano made a come back but no as disastrous as before.
It seems under control now.

Still working on it but going the right direction.
 
Today I cleaned the wave makers to get more flow in the tank.
The coralline and algae on the props slowed down the flow so this will also contribute in the fight against cyano.

Alk maintains now at 8.4.
So the corals are getting back taking up alk. Ca also maintains levels instead of rising.

A photosynthetic sea fan that I picked up a while ago was placed high in the tank. It loves the light.
In front of it a still to remove ice and fire that did not survive the alk swing.

Zoas on the other hand are doing fine... if the urchin does not surf over it

Maybe try feeding a little more to bring up your nitrates and don’t be afraid of higher levels, I run at 12-16ppm with zero algae issues, and phosphate is locked down at 0.03ppm.

You could maybe also look at increasing the flow around the affected parts to see if that clears it up.

I am still dosing NO3 at this moment. It keeps stable @ 2.5ppm.
PO4 always shows zero.
My idea was to go back to when all was stable before with the moto "never change a winning team"

I agree, ‘if it ain’t broke don’t try and fix it’! Lol
 
Great looking tank!

In over a touch over a year this thing has seen remarkable growth! I appreciate the thought you put into cable management when you started, that's super clean. Following along, hope you nip the cyano.
