120G Rimless shallow peninsula tank

Still busy getting the tank to recover by doing old fashioned water changes.
I siphoned the cyano out and little by little less and less is returning.
Yesterday during the hunt to siphon all from between the rocks I broke the blue staghorn (as on the latest pictures with the sea fan).
Luckily it broke at the bottom. I never noticed that this coral never encrusted and grew all the way up from the frag on the little putty it was placed on.
Gave it a new location and the one tip that broke and became a frag, was placed on the original position as it seemed to be happy there (contingency plan, just in case).

During next week I will prepare to clean the tank completely and do a make-over.
I want less rock to improve flow.
Less rock means less corals so a few will go up for sale, others will be fragged.

Actually I hope I can finish the make-over this week as my hands are kind of damaged during last weekends project. Putting them in salt water all the time does not help healing.

When I work on the tank I always put on some vinyl on the turntable and as I did not have a proper table for the audio set up (turntable and 2 speakers ;Woot) I came up with the idea to make my own.
I cut 3 plates of birch plywood into smaller plates of different lengths, but with the same height, glued those pieces together to have a thick 6" top.
As gluing and aligning all the pieces was a small catastrophe, I made a planer bench with router to have this adjusted.
My hands were cut several times... Not to the router, but at the sharp edges of the wood.

Any how the plan is... healing hands, preparing for make-over, do make-over, relax again and look for a new project.

So here the weekend is over.

On Friday I did the rescape and let everything cool down today before taking some pictures.


I had all drills, acrylic rod,... prepared but did not use any of that in the end.

Most of the islands are there already and it was just a matter to take out the smaller rocks and reposition the formed structures.

At first sight it does not look more open as I was wanting it but it is.

All remaining sand/gravel was removed (there was still a lot under the rocks) and with it all detritus. Amazing how much dirt gravel can hold.

I kept the main scape as it was but created a passage in the middle to have better flow. One MP40 was placed close to the bottom to pump water through the passage till it hits the rock at the other end and gives flow to the corals above.

The little rocks on the right are frag rocks. I keep them as some new frags will be arriving soon.

Thank you. I still prefer the first scape when the tank started, but this will benefit the tank more.

I always underestimated how important flow is.
Due to the better flow, the corals are showing already more polyps.
I am still thinking on adding a small gyre above the MP40, but that will be for next month.

you just remind me this hobby is always up and down, but after you combat those down, it is a very rewarding hobby. tank looks great, i like your little gem clam, the colour and pattern is so unique. looking at those frags growth shots is amazing, makes me want to buy more frags;Joyful

GHL Mitras Lightbar 2
I went with these ones for 2 reasons.
For the length of my tank I could go with 2 pieces of the 77W option which was a nice upgrade to the then T5's. They added some shimmer and were more or less the same price as the Reefbrites.
As I am using the GHL Profilux controller, I could connect the lights to it and play/program each LED colour in intensity and duration.

For your tank, I do not recommend them. Compared with the Radions and the 24" length, they would not be much of an upgrade and ( I believe you do not run an Profilux controller) would only have the on/off function.

Thank you! I didn't know GHL made a bar option, that's pretty cool! I like finding out there's other options out there.
