After having tanks since I was 4 years old and working at an LFS for over 8 years, it's been quite some time since I've had a tank after graduating college and living in apartments and townhouses for a few years after.

Well, my fiance and I bought a house in August, so the time is finally here for me to be an obnoxious fish guy again! And the plans just keep getting bigger and bigger... Hey, I've had a lot of time to think about it!

After a lot of thought (and persuasion) I've got the go ahead from my better half to set up a 120g DT in the living room with a fish room in the basement. Having built out systems for retail stores (and knowing how convenient these systems make maintenance) in the past, I'm more or less going to be creating a miniature version of some of the systems you might see at an LFS. And luckily for me, the fish room will sit in the basement almost directly below the DT in the living room.

Fun features will include:
Auto top off
Continuous, automated water changes
Quarantine tank rack
Apex control on just about everything
Frag tank plumbed into system
Custom stand and canopy
and most importantly.... Room to add on to the system as needed!

Just about all the equipment has been purchased as of now, and the real work will begin the weekend of the 9th as we'll be taking a much needed vacation to Southern Florida in few days.

For now, I'll leave you with some boring pictures of some painted tanks and my sleepy helpers, just to kick it off right.

What will you be using for a return pump I'm doing a very similar build.

I'm going the the Jebao 12000 currently. However, I'm hoping the Neptune return will end up meeting my needs whenever that is released.

Can't wait to see this progress definitely need some updates!

Appreciate the interest!

I've made some progress, but it has been coming along a bit slower than antidotes (as projects always do).

As of now, all of the equipment has been purchased, the wall is framed, and the stand is about half way done. I'll try to post an equipment list and pics of progress this weekend. Sunday will be another big work day on the project, thankfully.

I suppose the most exciting update is that I picked up a pair of black ice clowns that are going through QT now! So awesome to finally have some fish again, even if they're in an ugly bare bottom for now [emoji3]

Definitely apologize to those who wanted to follow along closely here. It's been tough finding time to build, let alone write up the thread! Finally finished up stain and poly on the stand and canopy today. Also have the fish room framed and dry walled.

Electric and plumbing to come very soon... And then we'll finally be wet!

Hard to tell from the picture, but each of the "boxes" in the stand will be book shelves. They will have false backs so I can get back to the plumbing heading to the basement if needed.

Lastly, these guys are currently in QT and doing fantastic. Can't wait to get them into the big tank.

Plumbing is almost done. Goes through the floor (don't tell my fiancé), and into filter room below.

Should be wet and salty by this weekend!

Looking good. Wish I had a filtration room

Thanks! It's going to be a dream come true.

My sloppy primer job is going to bother me for the foreseeable future now that I actually look at the picture... Oh well.

That looks great...nice work. I too am a little jealous of the fish room...lol.

Thank you! It's been way longer than expected in the making... Other wall will house 2 rack systems with 3 40 breeders each, as well water storage/mixing station.

Rock and sand are in! I really wanted a "2 island" scape, but could get something I likes with the 4 ft footprint.

Glue on the rocks dries for 48 hours, then I'll be starting the fill up.

Everyone cross your fingers for no leaks!

Aquascape looks great...nice job.

Got anything wet? Any updates?

Believe it or not, yes! Lots of good updates. I was just thinking yesterday that I need to bring some life back to this thread.

Things went rather slow due to our wedding/honeymoon, but I've really been able to put in a lot of time the past month.

The tank is up, running, and somewhat stocked. The fish room is running and functional, but to be honest still quite a mess.

I'll snap some pics and put together a more detailed post, hopefully tonight.
