Hi all,
New to this site and VERY new to saltwater aquariums. We've had a tropical juwel lido 120litre tank for years, fish died so changing to marine.
We've bought a 901cristal profi external filter, have the correct lights and a heater. Our next stage was to buy the live rock sand and water. How much live rock will we need? Also what's the best sand to get?
We are in the uk. We will be getting the aqua one g216 protein skimmer but we're taking our time setting up not doing all at once. Thanks in advance any advice happily taken. protein

Hey linzid35 happy to see you here!
Make a research reefaqurium local stores and they have to help you find out what's really going on and what you need. Tell them as much information as you can in details. Try not only one store, try few stores tell them about your situation. And don't worry, everything will be great, sometimes it just needs some time, ok?!
And post please here what you found out )) ;)
Also to be here at this forum it's good decision because here is many great people who you can trust and they can really help you!:)

Welcome to the forum! The live rock really depends on what your end goal is. I just started adding as I could afford it. Pretty soon, I had so much rock there wasn't much point in the deep sand bed. I now have an aqua scape I like and a good sized pile drying out in my garage. As for sand, I started with Bahamas oolite and found out it is way too fine. You probably want something just fine enough that it won't blow around, but not so course that some critters have a hard time digging in it. The special grade reef sand seems to be a nice size.

Hi thanks for comments. Bryce would u recommend having live reef tank over artificial? What's the difference in maintenance we want as low maintenance as possible hence we've paid more for decent filter x

*Welcome to Reef2Reef @linzid35 !* I personally prefer live, bountiful reef tanks. It would be much easier and far less costly to maintain a fish only aquarium. So that may be the best route to take at this time. You could always add corals as your experience and budget allows. As for sand,I don't really use it.I have what my husband calls "kitty litter" on the bottom of my display tank.I believe it's called crushed coral substrate,it has a larger particles size. This has worked well for me.
