Hello, I’ve been stalking this forum page for a while now, over the last few months I’ve decided it was time to try it out. Currently looking for recommendations on upgrades I can do that would highly benefit me or problems you can see With this setup.

Tank 125gal

Approx 2 1/2” throughout of caribsea sand and crushed coral

90lbs of dry Marco rock
10lbs of live branch rock from aquarium in Knoxville

fluval fx4 canister

2 fluval heaters with 1 digital and one cheapo thermometer, the 2 heaters seem to be plenty

Red Sea reef wave 45 and 1 off brand wave maker “plan to purchase another reef wave 45 this week” I seem to be having plently water flow as is but would enjot

hob protein skimmer honestly might add another one

daily dosing with brightwell micro bacteria 7, seachem prime, seachem stability, and aqua life activate.

been doing fishless cycle using raw shrimp from deli about 3-4 weeks into cycle and seems to be doing just fine.

only thing I wish I would’ve done different so far is went with a sump tank but I’m gonna test the waters with canisters, my plan is to automate this tank as much as possible because of my work EMS schedule, and doing my canister cleaning when I do my water changes.

Any idea or Criticism is welcome!

Off to a nice start.
Any suggestions I might have will depend on what you plan on keeping in the tank.
FOWLR? Then I'd say you're fine with canisters. Corals? IMO, best to get a sump.
What about lights?

My goal is to have some corals, i have been looking into possibly doing a HOB overflow and adding a sump, I feel like it would be very beneficial.

Lights….. Have yet to get that far….

I have a 5 year old tank with no sump and no need for one. HoB filter and a HoB protein Skimmer, that's it. Besides the bacteria you're adding I'm not sure where the other chemicals fit in. My only suggestion is possibly more rock, or make more caves and hiding places.

Nice size tank ! I would suggest a little more rock, making more caves or hiding spots for the future livestock.

For lighting, viperspectra lights are really popular on a budget or smatfarm
