Hey everyone, I am looking for suggestions on a main center piece fish for my 125 gallon mixed reef tank. I would like something large so it is noticed but still be comfortable in a 125, 6' foot tank. I currently have 3 wrasse, 3 firefish, 1 goby, and a falco hawk fish. Open to all suggestions. Thanks, Alex.

Tang?

Ya either a tang or some kind of reef safe angle or trigger. Not sure yet. Just looking for suggestions.

What price are you going for? A wantanabei angel is a uncommon beautiful fish. Also a blue throat trigger is an awesome fish. I have one myself and she has been a model citizen and eats anything. Just be aware the first couple of days they are in the tank they will hide because they have a shy demeanor.

I was looking at the blue throat trigger and liked them. Never thought about a regal angle. Its a beautiful fish. Just dont know how reef safe the regal would be.

Well it's a hit and miss on any angelfish except for the Genicanthus specie. I have had a red sea regal that I would say reef safe (i got lucky). it never bothered or nipped at anything but a single frag of blue agave zoa. No matter where I place the frag he will follow and nip on it so the frag was removed.

In your opinion would the blue throat trigger or the regal be more reef safe?

I have no experience with the trigger but it considered a reef safe one. Like I mentioned the regal I had was a hit and miss. I would prefer the regal due to it's beautiful color combination and will stand out in a tank specially with wrasses. If it was me.
Either one is a good choice

One of my tanks has a Majestic Angel, mine never bothers corals.
Pink tail Trigger are pretty.

I would say overall if you look at people's experiences blue throats are more reef safe, also regal are sometimes hard to get to eat captive foods and a heck of a lot more expensive.

Red Sea regal are very hard fish (but easier than other regional variants) mine was tough and ate before I bright her home. Divers den is a good bet.

Worth the trouble if you're an experienced aquarist and know how to handle expert level fish.

Well i have been in the hobby for a little over a year now, but havent really tried many fish. I've been focusing on coral. So now i am going to start to make the fish in my tank look as good as my corals do.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys.

Most regal angels I have seen that have done well have eventually developed a taste for chalices and clams.

Blue throat triggers won't bother corals, but inverts may be on the menu.

Linneatus wrasse, though not as large as some of the previously mentioned fish, is to me, the definition of a centerpiece fish. A pink square anthias would also fit the description.
