I have a 125 gallon tank, with 160-200lbs of live rock, 60lbs of crush coral on one side of the tank and 50-60lbs of live sand on the other side. i have 2 hob and 3 circulating pumps, it has been set up since feb 2013, i have never done a "water change" I just add water when needed, the fish, inverts and coral are doing great. has anyone ever done it this way before?

People have done it that way...unfortunently unless you are adding the minerals and such that the corals are using their growth will stunt or cease...they need a certain amount of calcium and magniesium for growth and water changes are the best way to do this...or dosing....

It may be okay now but you will have problems down the road if you don't keep your water parameters stable. By doing regular maintence beforehand you will be a step ahead.

thanks for the advice, im disabled so its hard for me to do a bunch of water changes, i didnt know if this way will work or not. i add purple tech to the tank and iodine.

There is a thread on here where someone has automatic water changes. I haven't looked into in any depth but Im sure he has pumps setup on timers.
