I am currently in the process of getting equipment for my 125 gallon build with a 40 gallon sump. Im looking for recommendations on a return pump to use. The overflow type drain I plan to use is the bean animal if this helps with the recommendation. Thanks for any advise.

It sort of depends on how much flow you want through the sump. My 120DT/40 sump uses a eheim 1262. Although there are plenty that move more water, I daresay there are none that will outlast it. One of my 1262's is somewhere around 40 years old and other than routine cleanings and an impeller or two is still going strong.

I’m happy with my Varios from Reef Octopus. I’d recommend any of their pumps. Super quiet and controlled through my Apex.

I just want to make sure there is enough flow in the sump and that the pump will handle the needs of the tank

Funny. I used that pump my old 125g for 5 years and i still use it on my 600g to drain the sump for water changes.
