I am hesitant to go with the 150 rather than a 125 because I am worried the extra height without a change in width would make the scape either more difficult or make the tank in general look awkwardly skinny. Is there anything I could do in a 150 that I couldnt do in a 125?

I'm not sure about the aquascaping, but the general rule is the bigger the easier for a tank. Higher tank volume makes it easier to maintain stability.

I've had a 150 tall (48x24x30) and a 150 long (60x24x24)

Both were fowlr tanks, fwiw punching through 30 inches of water for lighting and 'scaping can be a pain. I'm right at 6' tall and I needed a small step to get to the bottom of the 30 inch high 150.

both would be 6'. i just wish the 150 came in a standard form at 6' x 18" tall x 24" wide instead of 24" tall

Check out SC aquariums. Sounds like they do something close to what you want.

I don't see an issue with 24 inch deep tank pick the tank you feel fits best. The difference between 125 and 150 is probably only felt after 2 -3 years when you want to squeeze 3 more corals in but don't have room.

Older thread but if it helps anyone I would go with a 125g. I am 5'9-5'10 and reaching the bottom of a standard 6ft 150g 27" tall tank means you have to go shoulder deep into the water. With a 125g you can keep your shirt dry.

The 150g did not appear awkward, it was actually a nice looking display, but again it was not worth the hassle, for me. My chromis did like to swim up high in the water column in the 150g, so you may be able to keep a few more fish in the 150g.
