Ok so as the addiction goes, after several years getting my 40 gallon up and running I have finally got it all going. And I have a nice 125 with fresh water going just begging me to convert it over to saltwater :). Being that I drilled my 40 for drain and return I planning on doing the same with the 125 here's where the question comes in. What size drain and return? Also placement should the drains be in the middle and returns be in each corner or vise versa? I was thing 1.5" drain and 1" for the return and maybe dual return pumps, not quite sure on size of the pumps yet. Any help on the above topics would be awesome.

Thanks
Mark

If I had it to do over, I would do three return pipes. One in each corner and one in the middle. For the drains, I would do two 1.5 inch drains in case you wanted to do a herbie overflow type system. I would only do one return pump and tee the output to the three returns.

Thanks
Randy

Refresh my memory about the herbie overflow, is that where you have a large drain and a slightly smaller back up drain? Like on my 40 I have a 1" drain and a .5" back up drain just in case. Like I said it's been a while since I did the whole setup of my other tank

Sure, Basically you have two 1 inch drains or two 1.5 inch drains. The first drain will be used as a syphon and the second will be used as an emergency. That way if the first one overflows, the second drain can pick up the slack. Doing it this way will be a lot quieter than if you just have a standard standpipe drain.

Also, I have a 125 setup with a 1 inch drain, one emergency drain and a .75 return on each side. You are more than welcome to come over and check it out.

Thanks
Randy

Cool I'll get with you one weekend or on a Monday and come by to check it out.
