125g aquarium silicon sealant integrity

Hello,

I purchased a 125g aquarium and I was wondering what other people thought about the sealant on it. Does it matter that the part out on the glass is questionable? The actual inner part looks fine to me.

Its might be just me, but I always re-seal if I buy a used tank.

Does it peel back if you poke it with your finger nail? If not, it is probably fine. If you are worried, do a leak test for a few days...

I wish that was mine haha. It is my girlfriend's mom's car. We are moving into her house, and she has not moved it yet.

So, if it does peel back some, is a leak test still sufficient? The person we bought it from said they did a leak test and it was fine.

If I had to reseal, what does that entail? I suppose I could just look it up on YouTube but, figured I would ask.

In this situation, I would fill it up in the garage and test for leaks overnight. If everything is dry, I would drain it, put it into place and fill it with RO water. Let is sit a couple days (might as well get a power head and heater in it), then add the salt once it has been sitting a couple days and there are no signs of leaks...

With a good scraper, it went really quickly... A few posts above this, jeepguy describes his process, which worked just fine for me.

It may be ok for now, or a year, but I would have the tank resealed now while it's empty. The last thing you want is for it to spring a leak and then you have to deal with emptying it, relocating all the livestock, disconnecting the plumbing, ect...

Some LFS's do it, or glass shops if you don't feel comfortable. But it's been roughed up from scraping the glass and ripping the silicone off. You will only add to that. Up to you, but better safe than sorry imo.
