What do you think can truly be learned in 2 days though ? What equipment he needs ?

What about the ionic compounds in saltwater,how to handle nutrient spikes,what percipitation is,how to combat it. Keeping elements in line to risk the fall or rise or other elements,and the same goes for nutrients.

Maybe I am being hard on the fella,but things like this KILL me. There are 1000's and I mean 1000's of threads on here,NR,RS,RC that have covered every known subject hundreds of time if people spend the weeks,months,years like I have to become reliant on your own knowledge of research to where you don't have to post a thread for the 101th time that has already been covered.

What you need to do is get help on research,submerge yourself data,info,techniques. You should be asking for help if anything,not donations on equipment.

You're a kid right ? I feel like that's a safe assumption to make,or at least in your teens.

Is your mom going to fund the whole build ? For some reason I feel like when she has to fork out $160 for test kits (Salifert,no API junk) she is not going to like that.

I see rodi being throw around,is she going to fork out $30 a bucket for salt ? Or when a heater goes down to replace it for you ?

I have seen plenty of kids here and on NR want to start a tank and never go thru with it because they are reliant on someone else buying things for them.

Do a ton of research,and when you think you have done enough go do some more. In that time,maybe walk some dogs,deliver the neighborhood old lady her mail,mow some lawns or whatever it takes and stash some cash,slowly by the right equipment: quality test kids,reliable ato,a reliable light,good salt.

Like I said before, I'm younger than him and I have two successful reefs! Yes, this is a very expensive hobby and it's probably not for everyone. (He said he's 14 btw) I think you can do it Noah! Just save and do your research!

Take your time and save your money up. You don't have to have a tank in a month.
Believe it or not you'll enjoy it more by saving up for it.

Again, the good thing about the Fluval Evo is that you don't need upgrades. The only other equipment I think you would absolutely have to invest in is a heater and an RODI machine, but the pump and lights are more than sufficient for what you plan on keeping initially.

I’m wanting to start it fast because I can only go to the reef a lot during the summer unless I figured out how to carpool with someone in indmas or something. My mom dosent drive so the only time we can go far (to the reef) would be when she’s here because ubers are super unreliable at this point

but it’s 120 gl. The skimmer is rather 140, if you have enough load, 300 gl worth of skimmers is fine on a 120

I wouldn’t do 2 skimmers on a 40 breeder but 2 on a 120 would work as long as you don’t have 1 fish

ive got a skimmer that’s good up to 180g. And if I do get a back up it’ll probably be the aqua vitro division

I’d pass on shells. Personal experience they quickly become centers for algae (good for mounting corals though).

Ok, I’m not doing a 20 long. Its for many reasons such as, it’s cheaper to do a 13.5, it comes with everything but heat, and I can get my toes wet into the hobby before I make any crazy 1000’s of dollars investment. I plan to do 3-4 SMALL fish and some inverts. I’m going to upgrade the flow with a 250g fluval powerhead and I’m going to heat the tank with a fluval m50. I’m going to use reef crystals and rodi for the water and then I’m going to use 10 lbs live rock and 10 lbs Fiji pink for the scape. Weekly 10% wc so i can keep perams stable without dosing. I hope you all can tell me about your experiences with the fluval 13.5 and help me plan my tank to start my journey into the saltwater hobby!
