Good day all,

Well over the last few weeks I have been slowly putting my tank together. I am on the home stretch but wanted to see what others thought about what I have so far.

135 gal tank (72x18 wide x 24 tall)
55 gal sump (converted an old 55 gal tank I had)
Custom stand and canopy
Bubble Magnus nac 6 skimmer
Reeflo external return pump (1700 ghp)
Cps over flow box (1500 gph)
Aquaclear 50 x 3
4 foot tri-bulb t8 fixture (2 actinic and 1 50/50)
2 8” led pendants ( 5 10,000k and 5 blue leds in each)
24” glo t5 fixture for the sump
Apex Aquacontroller + 2 x EB8's
dosing pumps (going with the basic triton method)
6 stage rodi system
100 lbs live rock
Waiting on my lfs to get my substraight in going with Caribsea special grade

It took me a while and it’s not finished yet but I think I have a pretty good base to start.

I know people are going to give me a hard time about the t8 fixture but it was free and it works.

Any thoughts anyone has would help for sure.

Pics of everything to follow

Looks great so far and thanks for all the pictures and write up

And welcome to R2R as well!

The only issue I am running into is the placement of my return pump and how I can throttle the output back a bit.

The over flow box will only do 1500 gph and the pump is rated for 1700. I am hoping that the height and length of the pipes might do the trick but we will see

Its always exciting seeing new tank go up. Does your sump have enough clearance to take equipments in/out of the sump? Or enough for bigger upgrade in. E future

Definitely get a gate valve and throttle the pump back. The overflow may handle 1500 but it will be noisy anything over about 60% of that. I have run them before.

Also, run a herbie setup to quiet it down as well.

Besides, I like to err on the side of caution and run any overflow well below it's limit.

Welcome to R2R and great start!

This is looking great...congrats on a great start. I'm signing up to follow along.

Since this is your build thread, would you like me to move it over to the members tank forum? Okay either way, just thought I'd offer.

Dlb you can move where you think it’s proper.

I added in a check valve as well as a ball valve on the out put of my return pump today.

I made sure to leave enough space to pull everything out I will need to. I have to pull the catch cup of my skimmer before I can pull it but it’s not an issue.

I am going to have the over flow enclosed and there are custom baffles in it to cut down on noise.

I just added the apex aquacontroller today with a pair of eb8s with the display and a ph and temp probe.

I also installed a brs 6 stage rodi set up as well.

Once the stand is done I have 100lbs of live couring and waiting to go in. All I am waiting for now is the substrate to come in.

I am trying to take all the right steps and I think I am off to a good start.

So just a little up date the plumbing is all done, my reef controller is all set up and I picked up 60lbs of aragonite and just waiting for another 30lbs to come in. I also picked up another 75 ish lbs of base rock just in case I didn’t have enough.

The only wrench in the gears is that my daughter chipped the corner of my tank with her MacBook but I think it will be ok after a post or two on here.

All that’s left is to finish my stand and I will have everything ready to go.

I will post pics when everything is ready to go.

Sorry it’s taking so long but I am just doing a little at a time that way my wife won’t go crazy and stone me to death with my base rock lol.
