14 gallon biocube media basket?

Hi everyone,

I have a stock 14g biocube. I've been reading that a lot of people usually take out the bioballs from the 2nd chamber and put in a media basket with filter floss, purigen, and chemipure.

Usually people do this before adding water and livestock but, too bad for me, I've already had the tank for almost 2 months now: and already have my first fish.

My question to you guys is...is a media basket worth it? Do I still need my coralife protein skimmer? (I understand that I will need to do consistent weekly water changes)

Any feedback from anyone's experiences will be greatly appreciated.

I've modded my bc14 to the max and then some...I have intank media basket and love it. I had the skimmer for a while just didn't care for it and it didn't work that well...filter floss works amazing with weekly water changes...I run crazy crazy flow in my tank with a sicce syncra 1.5!! (350gph) and a pulsing wave maker for a few hours also...I have several fish and inverts and loaded to the max with coral

Media basket is a must...I run dual filter floss on top, chaeto in middle, chemipure and purigen on bottom...then some biopellets in the bubble trap in chamber 3...

Thanks scuba. Did you mod it before or after you put livestock in? After reading yours and a lot of peoples' testimonials I'm def thinking media basket is the way to go.

May I see some pics to see what your setup looks like?

I wouldn't worry to much about doing it with livestock...I've done almost everything with livestock in the tank...just do it when you turn the tank off to do a water change.
