WHAT? Steve Tyree has 15 kids? Well not exactly. I don’t think anyhow. Although it was an honor and a pleasure to meet him last month, I’ve been the proud owner of one of his namesakes for a few years now.
The Tyree Neon Green Toadstool Leather Coral has taken center stage in my reef. Friends and family who check out my 180g tank are immediately drawn to the graceful polyps moving in the current.
Just before Christmas, I decided to frag the now foot across softie and create 15 new corals. I didn’t want to secure them to frag plugs. I wanted to go bigger! So I purchased 15, 3”- 4” pieces of life rock. My goal is to grow them out to more resemble the mothership instead of a one inch frag. I guess I’ll see in a year or two if there’s a demand or market for large colonies. In the mean time the baby’s are doing just fine and mama “today” started extending her polyps again. It’s been a month. Yes, I was concerned.
