150 Build - Kansas City

I've been keeping saltwater tanks since I was 14. I'll turn 48 this year, so just a little bit of time. When we moved to the new house 2 1/2 years ago, I broke down my old Oceanic 58 gallon and sold everything off. I was planning on doing a 120 gallon there, but we ended up moving before that came to fruition. I didn't see a good spot for putting a tank in the finished portion of the new house, but knew I would have room for a larger tank somewhere. I had planned on doing a 180 gallon (72" x 24" x 24") but after building a cardboard box that size, found that there wasn't quite enough room to maneuver a tank that size where I wanted it. So I sized down to 150 gallon as mentioned above, which will fit nicely. I would live to order a Reef Savvy aquarium, but may do a Planet Aquarium through a LFS. Key to me is having a Synergy Reef overflow or similar (bean-animal style with minimal tank intrusion space) and composite bottom on the tank. I want LowE glass for clarity. I'm less sold on rimless or euro-braced styles. Adding a few pics showing planning for size and my equipment list for planning purposes.

My plan is to try and get tank spawned and raised fish if possible, and keep more than 1 of each. So the short list so far is:

3 Yellow Tangs - Zebrasoma flavescens - (hope to get them small and schooling)
3 Bellus Angelfish - Genicanthus bellus - (hope to get one to turn to a male)
10 Masked Goby (ORA) - Coryphopterus personatus - for a small schooling fish)

Also, trying to stock for growth over time, knowing they will get larger. We'll see how it goes. Got to keep the wife from adding fish she sees that look pretty, but end up not being a good fit. We've gone through that before and I think she learned her lesson. ;)

Posting some pics from some old tanks I helped a friend Dan set up. He started with a 90 gallon hex and then added two 110's in the wall. They got plumbed together into two common sumps, one of which had an algal turf scrubber. They were lit my metal halides at 6500K. We didn't really know anything about dosing back then. Lots of heavy feeding and water changes.

Did you mean 60x24x24? 48 would be a 120.

Update on equipment list. I won the Kessil AP9X from BRS. I thought about selling it and buying the Ecotech on my original list. But after consideration, will keep it and purchase one more for the 150. According to my original plan, I would need 3 of the Ecotech lights to get adequate coverage, but it looks like I can get by with two of the Kessils due to the broader coverage.

how do you like ap9x? i have similar tank dimension and considering 2 of those or 2 G5.

check out my build.

Interested to see how you like them. They are on the list for my 100 gallon build.

Looks like your off to a great start will be following along. I live in Excelsior and am getting ready to start a 75 innovative marine, been out of the hobby for 6 years.

Slow build with a slow year. Not what any of us expected I'm sure. Ordered and received my two 105 Gallon vertical tanks for my mixing station from AgSpray. Competitive price and best delivery charge. Ordered pump and some plumbing parts today. Will get the rest from the local hardware store and show what it looks like when all hooked up. It's sits on a POP Pallet in case I ever need to drain it, plus offers some insulation from the cold concrete floor.
