Hello everyone! I just transferred my rock over from my 55 gallon to my new 150. I had about 100lbs of rock curing for the last 6 weeks. I added about 80lbs and I just cannot shake the wall feeling. I like it but there is something about it that screams too much and thrown together. I glued my rocks together for my 55g to give it a nice look but now it seems off.

Please see below and after pictures. Also, I highlighted two shelf rocks I am thinking about removing to break up the wall effect.

Any suggestions anyone? No hurt feelings. Let me have it... :-) I have a PAR meter coming Wednesday so I would like to have the rock placement for that.

I just redid some of my aquascape this past weekend. Took some rock from my sump and drilled it with a masonry drill bit and used fiberglass driveway markers for rods. Using this you can build rock structures.

Yes, yours looks thrown together, but not bad.

First of all it is a beautiful tank, well done. Since you asked, I prefer when tank decoration is not symmetrical. Meaning, when there is a clear center point and and the rockscape is more or less equal on each side. I like big tanks that have two sets of rockscapes with swimming space in between them, or just a "wall" as you say but constructed off center a bit. Professionals photographers call it the "rule of thirds", which basically means you should not center your subject. Just IMO, love your tank as is!

Flippers tank above has a bigger center point on the left, lower in the middle, and then up again on the right which illustrates beautifully what I was trying to say with words!

Hey @h2oh2o - it's easy to see the difference you're talking about between the old and new scapes. No offense but the new scape kind of looks like you simply took the new rocks and placed them one on top of another without thought to actually scaping it. Two things to think about are; 1.) What is the new tank going to be housing? 2.) What is the look you are looking to achieve?

When it all said and done, the only person that has to be happy is you. So make it how you like it.

This is what it looked like before. Had to remove the right rock structures because of a palythoa scourge. It was bad! Lol

It looks like everything is the same with exception to about 3 or 4 moved pieces from right to the center/center front.
BTW - Nice looking tank!

Removed about 60lbs of rock. Doesnt have the wall feel anymore. It looks better in person and my OCD is better now.

Less is more IMOP. Just because you have all that rock you don’t have to use it. I just set up my 150 and I went with a column look so that there is a ton of flow around the rocks and nothing builds up behind the rocks. Nice looking tank tho!
