150 Gallon Lagoon

I am tired of changing carbs out on family members generators so I decided to finally get my own.

The plan was a whole house generac with transfer switch but we rarely lose power in my neighborhood and if we do con Ed works pretty quick. Also I can use this for construction purposes if need be. It is also quieter than a Honda 2000ui.

Terrible storm hit us recently but luckily we didn't lose power. This tree was a tenth of a mile from my house.

I spread the radions out, lowerd them to 7" AWL and lowered the intensity quite a bit. Im no longer being blinded by the reflections from surface agitation. Still experimenting with diffusers or no diffusers and I think I'm gonna keep them off for now.

I have been scraping the coralline off in sections. Talk about a nuisance. Fighting some cyano atm but have been backing off on the DLI a little.

Im going to scape this baby soon and it will be exclusive Acropora Tank.

I am setting mine up right now. Its in the house and on the stand but thats about it!

Can you give me your thoughts on the icecap sump? Hard to beat that size sump for the price it is.. The sump is the main holdup on me continuing with this build!

Sorry I am 3 month late . When I bought this sump It was $275 shipped to a FedEx hub about 45 min away from me. At that price it was impossible to pass up. They have gone up in price quite a bit. Couple nit picking things about it bug me but overall a good sump. Need Ice cap socks to properly fit. I use filter media cup brand and they fit pretty good, quiet and water doesnt bypass them.

They have changed them to smaller socks since and increased the size of return section.

@Davy Jones I will check out your build.

Some Updates....

Removed the Radions from my tank and will be selling them soon. They are a fantastic lights but don't work for my tank/plans for a couple reasons.

They spread the light almost too well and moving them closer to my eurobrace/water made my eye strain unbearable from the reflections. Looking back I think 4 xr15s would have been perfect for this tank for a while until colonies grew upwards. I have noticed the less concentrated the diodes the easier it is on my eyes. I have very bad light sensitivity.

When I had 2 xr30 on my tank almost no eyestrain. Added a third and migraine in 30 min in front of the tank.

So I bought two Straton to replace the radions. Some will think I'm crazy but I like looking at my tank whenever possible and the eye strain was making me hate my tank.

Just took a daylight pic of the tank and tried to match white balance to the best of my abilities with my phone.

I was going to clean up the tank and take some nice pictures with my Dslr but I need to get ready for the big move. I'm having 4 people come over tomorrow to help me move the tank into its final location. Finally will be able to finish installing the last couple rows of the lifeproof flooring.

Some Updates....

Moved the tank out of its "temporary" location that it was in since 2019. Seems like the story of my life... not being able to give my tanks the attention they deserve. The temporary, barebones, lack of redundancy in the setup was a costly mistake and learning experience. You live and you learn, especially in this hobby.

Unfortunately while moving the tank My wife, Dog and I suffered some pretty severe Palytoxin poisoning but luckily we are all OK. The tank move did not go as planned and I did some things I would have never done if not on a time crunch. No heaters or pumps and just tried to move as quickly as possible. My sps were sliming up like I have never seen before. I've never had to move such a large water volume before and I used 7 different contsiner to hold the water. YIKES! I never thought a 10ft move could go so poorly but it did. The most idiotic part is I had two 160 gallon vertical storage tanks in the garage.

Anywho could of been a lot worse I guess, no coral losses and we pulled through although it was scary. I spent what felt like hours scraping the glass today and I forgot how much I love the side view of the tank :) I plan on scraping the coralline algae every week so it never gets like this again.

I added a yellow Coris Wrasse today! Best $20 preventative maintenance fish one could buy. Tomorrow the plan is to finish scraping the rest of the glass and overflow, pull out some of the larger/denser rocks and drill them with 1/4" bit so I can start pegging the Acros. I have been saying I'm gonna do this since 2011 but for some stupid reason I never have. Pure Laziness. I have a really nice pack coming from Greg's Corals, and Vivid Aquariums on thursday. I am excited!

So today around 11 30am a very nice neighbor pulled up In a silver jeep with 2 coral boxes. I was in disbilief, jaw dropped, and I was so thankful for him. In the packages was three bounce mushroom (newrelease), cherry bomb, RMF red matrix, Poto rise and shine, Bill Murray, homewrecker and if my neighbor wasn't home I would have lost them all. Talk about a close call.
