Well I was moveing some stuff around and if you haven't seen my tank I have 2 side one with T-5 2 Aquaplue plus and 2 11K geissemen overdriven by an Ice Cap 660, and on the other for the zoas I have a 150 watt coralife 10K HQI.

Under the T-5 they would be about 2" under the water at he end of the bulbs and about 6" off center of the closest bulb, and the T-5s are about 10" off the water.

ANd the side with the 150 they are 6" from center of the halide and about 8" under the water leavel?

SOOOOO.............

What side do you think would get the best growth and what would get the best color?
Or what side would you do basically?

hqi but with 14k... btw, your prop system is sick.

The Right side....... the pendants are the 150 watt HQIs and the reflectors is 2 400 watt SE and 2 T-5 Actinics over the acros?

I voted t5's because thats what I like better... lol JK ;) Really it would depend for me on what I was wanting to propagate... If it was strictly zoas/palys I would stick with my t5 decision... You can play with the color spectrum a lot more with t5's than mh's since there are a lot more bulb options and you can mix and match accordingly... So you can optimize for both growth and coloration... If I were wanting to propagate SPS or LPS and some zoas/palys, I'd probably opt for the 150w MH's... Only because you can play with intensity... Some sps/lps well, even zoas like more intense light than others... And since MH's are a point source lighting, its easier to manipulate the intensity the corals receive with their placement... Well, what I mean to say is that you can move them side to side away from the MH, as well as up and down...

So in the end, I'd say t5's if you want to play with color spectrum, and 150w mh's if you want to play with intensity... :D Not sure if I helped, but theres my opinion... Normally I'm not a fence straddler, I promise!!!!!

I allso am going with ho T5's. I have the aquactinics set up and love it. It has individual reflectors and a fan for increased bulb life and increased par. Replaceing my MH 14ks on the other tank with the same set up. I am not sure if running 5 ho T5's is any cheaper on the electric. Just my 2 cents.

dude xawp...

You should be the one answering this question for the rest of us!! Take two identical frags and put one on each side and track their growth / color. You are probably the only one here with a tank with two different lighting systems (on the same tank - good for exprimentation...), so you can be our tester!
