Hello Everyone!

I thought I would get the build out there. See what everyone thinks so far.... I'm getting there. I've built the stand, done some aquascaping with dry rock and glue, designed the sump and plumbing. Plumbed the drains. Returns are next.

I welcome any criticism, comments, and opinions. I'm not new to the hobby, but I'm no expert either. This is the most involved I've ever got, with this build.

**If your new to the hobby and your overwhelmed by some things. Stop, take your time, research it, research it, research it, apply it, move to the next issue. Keep working through the problems. You'll get there if you leave no stone unturned.

150g Tank
Platinum 39 Sump (Trigger)
Apex gear is all there.
35g blue ATO reservoir
(2) 20g auto water change reservoirs (white and grey)

Bean animal at 1" with a 1.25 Emergency drain. 2 return pumps are planned. One main return that splits, and one special return hooked directly to the uv. So three return discharges into the DT.

I'll probobly put a manifold on there and never use it.

What do you think?

I like your build so far. Just one thing, your drains are going to take up valuable space in the main display from what I see. Unless I’m looking at it wrong.

Yea a little bit I think. But I tried to streamline it. The dang eurobrace is just always in the way.

The overflow will be 4 inches wide by 24 inches long, and set up in the back right. Otherwise, I would have had to cut that nice acrylic on the top.... wanted it in the center, no dice.. then I considered a dual overflow system....but I figured I didn't want to set two siphons all the time. Well see how she goes soon.

Thanks for the comment Tigerhawk!

Love it.
Stunning.
I can’t see underneath. Ensure you have a gate valve on all overflows so you can easily tune your pipes to run absolutely silent.
Well done.

Thanks Unc! I'm having a ton of fun.

So I did not install a valve on the e drain or the open channel.

Once I create the siphon, the durso is simply taking on the minor fluctuations in water level. So I thought there wouldn't be any reason to valve that drain.

Am I wrong on that?

I need someone with this drain type to chime in.
What I see is water falling down that blue overflow on the right next to the return. How do you adjust water height?
Mine, I need to control the height of the water going into the main drain or she gurgles.

I also wanted to be able to full close both the overflows and returns in case of maintenance.

So the blue pipe next to the return on the overflow is the emergency drain. It's dry. And only used in an event where I'm pumping water into the aquarium too much. The height of the emergency drain is as close to the top of the tank as possible. (The highest water mark).

The bean animal design has a siphon line with a gate valve for fine adjustments to the siphon and water level.

Then it has an open channel durso drain. That will only run around 20 to 40% capacity. It's only deal is to control minor fluctuations in the water level, so I don't have to continously mess with the siphon. (I have seen guys valve this, but I don't know why). I couldn't find a reason to include a valve here.

And the e drain is just the emergency. So if I have water going through that I likely have a problem.

Ideally, I'll be running a full siphon on the main line (with the gate), silent because it's siphons. Then have the durso just taking a slower, almost trickle flow. And have a dry e drain they're for an emergency.
