Anyone have experience with 150W Metal Halides?
Anyone have experience with Hamiltons 150W DE bulbs? 10k-14k-20k

I am looking into two 150W metal halides for a mixed reef 100-120g 20-24in deep reef. Mostly interested in LPS, Soft Corals, and branching Montipora.

I am leaning strongly toward the Hamiltons Bimini Sun. I want the great spectrum blending and shimmer halide offers.

I have a hard time imagining the need for two 250w lights, 500W+ seems like overkill on a tank this size unless full SPS.

I used to use nothing but the Hamilton 14k, but in SE. I did it overkill with 2x250W over a 55g back then :)

Halides are amazing! You will have tremendous growth and color!!!
150W bulbs can do. Play with the photoperiod.
Just get what you are leaning towards and be happy.
I would choose the selectable ballast in case you want more wattage later.
Enjoy your ride!

150w HQI are really good mix reef lighting. IMO, 14k Phoenix is the best-of-breed bulb in this wattage, but Hamilton makes nice stuff. 10,14 or 20 is up to you.

The Bimini are nice fixtures and look good with an open-top look. Make sure that match them up with m81 ballasts - Hamilton can help you with this too.

My bad, yup, the 150W needs M81 for proper performance, not electronic selected ballasts.
Sorry.

I bought 2 of the Hamilton Cayman Sun fixtures I think they were, can't remember now lol. They are the 12"×12" fixtures. Put 2 over my 90, 8 to 10" off the water and the coverage is amazing.

I’m looking into metal halide for my 90g. Would you mind posting pictures of these lights over your tank?

Not as sleek as some set ups but I still love it. Some 50/50 LEDs in between the pendants and a XHO Reefbrite in the front. Plus one little desk fan off Amazon, completely silent and temperature doesn't go over 80 even with glass lids and 2-250w halides. Bulbs are DE Phoenix 14k.

Looks really nice to me!! What type of rail do you have up there holding the lights?

Homemade 3/4 square tube frame and some 3/4 angle iron "trays" the pendants sit in, with some brackets made for the LEDs. Easy being a welder lol.
Photos look blue but that's from the phone. The M/Hs look amazing and with the reefbrite on it adds just a small blue crispness.
