I have the new pumps in and they put out some major flow. I am just not sure what settings I should use to get a good wave going. Have one pump on each side of the tank and I am using an Apex to control them via VDM. I have one profile for the left side with synchronize on, divide by 10, using on for 6 secs, off 4 secs, with a delay start of 4 secs. The right side is the same but without the delay. Not really achieving the result I want though.

To get a wave you need to getba rythm going more like on for 2 sec then off for 2 sec. Ull have to play with it to get the exact timing down

If youve git it set correct ull see a wave within 20sec. The tunzes need to be set at same interval .6 sec is probly to fast try 1 sec on/off go fron there. Kinda like when u get a vortech u have to play with the wavemaker for a while to get the exact timming of the wave down for your tank size. For a 180 its gona b about 1.5-2 sec on/off cycle for an alternating wave.
When i had my vortechs tho the better wave came from blowing them both at the same time not alternating. This wave is about 1 sec or so intervals. And creates a high turbulent wave when u get it tuned right. This causes both sides to come crashing in the middle causing a much bigger wave and motion in your tank.

Did you use the same amount of time for on/off ? I see examples online with say .7 seconds on/.4 seconds off for a wave on a 8 ft tank. I tried the 1 sec/1 sec and that didn't really do any wave action.

I got a decent wave going now with the pumps synchronized with each other and doing .6 seconds on and .4 seconds off. I am not going all the way down to 0 speed though because that causes an audible click. So running 30/100.

Im not sure what the timing was exactly cause with vortechs u just watch the wave and click buttons to dial it in but it seemed to be on/off the same ammount.of time.

Yup don't go below 30. In my new build I'm going tunze and getting rid of my MP40s. Been looking at programming and everyone advise against running them below 30%

I also had to change my jumpers back out from 24v to 18v and then changed my profile to 30/90 instead of 30/100. It was just too much flow. My corals were getting blasted, especially the softies. The fish were all hiding too. I had a frogspawn that was epoxied to some live rock in the middle of the tank and it broke the epoxy and blasted it off ... And I am using the wide flow nozzles.

Have enjoyed your build and LOVE your tank. Wondering why you changed pumps. Did you want more flow or did you not like the mp40's anymore? Do you like the Tunze better? Sorry don't want to start a ecotech/tunze war, just curious.

I never bought the mp40's. I was going to get them, but decided to get Tunze mainly because of reliability. I have been using the Aqueon 1250's I had originally on my 92 gallon corner tank up to this point.

Had a pucker moment as I was doing my water change this weekend. As I was wiping everything down and putting things away I heard a drip, drip, drip. My left return line was leaking. Turns out it was a little loose. A half turn on the bulkhead stopped the leak. Phew.

Good catch! I had a similar incident and noticed this weekend that my overflow box had about 1/2"-1" more of water in it than normal. Pulled it out and found the drain screen/grate clogged up. That coulda been bad if it woulda clogged all the way. Now it's on the check and clean every 3 months list.
