180 power heads

Hey all, I don’t have any coral yet, tank set up in December. Plan to go sticks only. I currently have two MP40’s, one on each end, staggered. I feel like that won’t be enough for acros.

would you add a 3rd mp40, for $370...or would you get a tunze 6105 or something else ?

I have an mp60 on one side of my 180 and 2 mp40’s on the other. I think that is bare minimum for sps mainly. I like the tunze for sure but I don’t want cords in the tank. I’ve also tried the gyre pumps. The flow was amazing but mine was loud and also had the cord problem.

Thanks. So ideal would be 1 mp60, and have the two 40s in one side.

if I can’t swing the 700, then maybe two of those 6105s on back wall, with the mp40s I have on one side

You can point a Tunze. If in doubt, I always recommend them over a mp40 since they are not as static.

I have a pair of 6105s in a 7 foot 210 and also a wavebox - this is all that I use.

If you have the space, build a surge device. They replicate a wave crashing into the surf & are considerably cheaper. Ours is based on the Carlson method, & flushes ~15 gallons into our 300 gal display every few minutes. This is used in conjunction with power heads & creates irregular flow.

whichbtunze would you get? I’ll have the two mp40 already, if I want to do Justin one tunze on back wall, day top right and aim or left, will the 6105 be the ticket?

that seems to be the closes tunze model strength wise to a Vortech. Only about a 90dollar price difference
