I am currently in the process of upgrading my older equipment in order to set up my old system. I shut down my system almost a decade ago due to financial concerns. The tank was beautiful when it was running, and low maintenance. The main display is 180g oceanic reef ready with 2 Durso and 2 return I am thinking of going with returns over the top to allow for a newer drainage system. The sump is a 100g tank that I’ve drilled for an external return, and several glass baffles. As a refugium a 150g I drilled for an overflow drain will be situated so the drain will be above the main tank to gravity feed into the display (there were always a ton of pods flowing into the display for my Mandarin goby and corals). I will have chaetomorpha, some rock, and possibly a few mangroves in the fuge.

Some of the equipment I’ve upgraded so far:

My dual Venturi skimmer that was a noisy electricity hog has been replaced with a recirculating needle wheel Euro-reef

My 4 400w metal halides have been replaced with 4 16” sbreef leds

My giant Iwaki return pump has been replaced with a Jebao dcp 10000

My old AquaController has been replaced with an Apex classic with pm1, pm2, breakout box with 3 float switches, 2x Eb8, 1link with 3 Wav powerheads, probes-2 ph, 2 temp, orp, and salinity.

I currently have my mix of old Fiji, Tonga, and Kaelini rock curing in a tote with a few nice purple pieces I bought recently to seed the rest. There is almost 300# total. I’m not sure if I’ll use all of it in the system when I’m done. There are at least a dozen nice pieces over 15# each.

I will update with pictures as I get things set up.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Sounds like a nice return to reefing. Welcome to R2R!
