I am attempting a new setup (20 gallon high) using research and resources from the 1950s, I know that undergravel filters were the only filter back then and I know the list of suitable species, percula clownfish (likely refering to ocellaris clownfish) sergeant major damselfish, small brackish water puffers, scats, and mollies, jeweled blenny species, blue damselfish species, hi-hat, Klein’s butterfly fish, and certain dwarf angelfishes.

any other advice anyone can give me?

I run a RUGF system in my 90 gallon. Love it.

Could always read alot of @Paul B s posts cause he started his pretty early and runs very old-school ways on his tank.

Interesting thing to start a reef around

I have also noticed one other thing, advanced aquarists pre 1985 wanted big fish, in most old literature there is very little if any mention of dartfish, dottybacks, basslets, anthias, and most blennies and gobies
