Since I set up my coral room and took down my display in the living room I figured I would experiment to "graft" my favorite monti.
I have named it Dragon's Revenge

Pic is in a bare black bottom acrylic tank w/ LEDs
LMK what you think

Looks more like bleaching than grafting... How or what did you try to make this experiment a go... Or what's are you hoping to see here??I have always been curious on grafting myself... Good luck..:)

I used similar species (although not exact I used Tyree Seasons Greatings) that are placed touching each other. As they start stinging each other the slime mixes up and the Zoozanthilae (however it is spelled) algae mixes sharing the pigmentation (only Redish cap accepted new pigmentation, SG had no effect not even a booboo) causing the redish, orangish, pinkish hue cap to display green coloration on base (some of the polyps looks a little different but cannot say if its is from the graft) . That is not bleaching but mostly from being handled A LOT during tank maintenance before the pic

Interesting, there are green pigments around the edge of it. Hopefully they permanently remain. Nice monti even if the green doesn't stay though!

I don't quite understand what two corals your grafting together. You mention seasons greetings and orange cap, but no pics of the two corals. Your pics don't look like a seasons greetings or orange cap so I'm lost....

Actually is caused by a infection at the wound site... While it looks good and appealing it's not a good thing... Supposedly the original simplex took on a graft from a pocci that spawned but I'm not buying it... I have owned the green jacketed divicorita and to graft it was No simpler than gluing a green on the purple haha...

I don't see the green...it looks white and red to me. Got anymore pics? Also, is this the monti you mentioned in your grafting process? I thought it was a cap.

Thanks I need all the luck I can get :)

This cap is unbelievable! Cannot get pic of true coloration of mother. I really hope the coloration travels more but I expect only newer growth to be effected

This is no ordinary cap (orig looks same but w/o green coloration, I will try to find a pic of SG) I just used red for quick reference as it does not have a name.
The grafting is the mixing of the colorful algae of both corals thus changing color to a combination of the 2. It is not the same as grafting in hard stem plants where branches are attached together to grow

Is it capricornis or cebuensis. The growth resembles montipora cebuensis more than capricornis but I am only looking at the picture. This sp. of monti grows like a cap but has the different body texture like yours does.
Check it out:

Hopefully the color spreads well!

(red w/ blue polyp) Yes I believe it is. Thank you for the link.

I was talking about the red w/ blue polyp. It is a sweet piece, I like the glowy of it.

Good luck with your grafting!

You are just adding some GFP from another piece. That's not grafting. I have an acro that anything it touches it infects with GFP. I haven't done it on purpose because it kills back the each piece a bit then takes a while to regrow, but that acro has been taking off lately. I've been thinking of cutting a frag off it off, and using it to infect a an efflo.
