Hello. I have set up my first QT tank as I have returned to the hobby after 10yrs. I have a 20gl QT with two fish currently. I am using Fritz Coppersafe. I dosed over 2 days 50/50 and measure this morning with my Hanna Checker and my levels are at 2.35. I have been reading that therapeutic level is 1.5 - 2.0. Is being above 2.0 a problem and I need to lower it or in others experience is my current level ok?

Any advice would be appreciated. My fish seem to be fine so far in day 3.

Thanks

I would definitely try to get it within the recommended range. I have just completed treating my fish and the one piece of advice I consistently received was to not overdose, as it can be lethal to the fish.

I just ran some bench testing with Coppersafe and a Hanna checker - I got 2.30 mg/l on average when I dosed using a micropipette to the label instructions. The range was 2.18 to 2.48. Did you dose to the actual water volume, or the "rated" volume? A 20 gallon long aquarium is 30"x12" with a water depth of perhaps 11"? That is actually around 17 gallons. What you need to do is measure the inside of the glass front to back and end to end and then the water depth. Assuming not a lot of displacement from rocks and such, you just multiple those three numbers (in inches) and divide by 231. That will give you the actual water volume of your tank in gallons, and THAT is what you need to dose for.
