So, as the title says. I'm a first time reefer and am very excited to take on my very first build. I recently picked up a 125 gallon tank with stand and canopy for $250. As seen below.

I went on YouTube and saw some videos on testing whether glass is tempered or not. From my understanding most bottom of tanks are tempered, but from what the tests show, mine is not.
With that being said, I plan on doing 2 overflows going into either a 40 or 50 gallon sump.
Here is what I came up with.

So my questions are:

1. What size should my drain lines and returns be?
2. What size pump should I get?
3. Is the 2 overflow system necessary?
4. Can I run tubing instead of PVC to reduce the 90 and 45 degree bend?

#1- drain lines are typically 1" and can accomdate 960gph
#2- Pump for return would be based off of how much headloss your going to have, distance from sump to tank. Many return pumps out there. You want an internal? External?
#2- 2 overflows needed? No, but the turn over would be better to have. You could also go with one bigger overflow instead of the usual 1".
#3- yes, you can use tubing instead of pvc.

Thank you for the quick reply.
Not sure what return pump I want or need. What's the preferred between internal or external?
Also can I make all 4 bulkheads the same size?
How about one way valves, shutoff valves, etc. Any of that needed?

Just want to make sure I do this correct.
Thank you for your time.

Thank you reefing madness for those links. They were very informative.
So from what I gather, I am going to drill 4 holes for 2 overflows with 1inch bulkheads. 2 for drains and 2 for returns. I'm going to use log line flare nozzles for the returns.
As far as the drain goes, how high should the drain pipe be in the overflow? Does it matter?

As far as I know of, no, it doesn't matter, the water will flow into the overflows and fill them enough for the drains to siphon them. Using the locline for the return into the tank, you just want it above the water line, or have a hole drilled into it right at the water line, so it break siphon during a power outtage.

Awesome. Thanks a bunch for helping.
So I should be good to go with everything how I stated? Hopefully.
