2.5G Office Pico - SPS recommendations

Love the pumpkin pie, looks amazing!

Thanks, its not colouring up like the Shop's Photo but I am excited to see how it ends up. I have a feeling it needs more light than I'm giving it currently but I am slowly ramping up the Kessil A80 on acclimation mode.

Hopefully it's just a case of getting it acclimated!

Not really a great deal to report on today, I decided that teh Pumpkin pie wanted more light so I quickly threw together a crappy frag rack and increased the height of the Montipora, being careful not to put it in direct flow. Almost instantly I could see the faintest glimpse of Lime and Yellow Polyps. Spinel in the background leaving his cave

Other Monti is looking okay, skeleton appears clear and clean (no algae growth) am keeping an eye on it and might just go ahead and frag above and below the damage. Green Digi coloured up nice so far, small polyps on teh tips as well which pleases me

Finally a couple of shots of the Biting Blue Devil (aka Spinel), why do you hate my hand? I'm trying to make this tank pretty for you!

So after the lockdown this is the state of the tank

Those Hermits were too good at hide and seek

dang you had a nice little tank going for a while there... plans to start it back up?

Thanks.

Im going to see how this month pans out, I have a feeling that the UK will have another lock down shortly and don't want to go through all that again lol.

Can't take it home as I've already been told that my 3 nanos need to become 2 and eventually 1.

Added the ASTA 20 LED to this little tank, I prefer the way that the Coral looks under the PAR38 bulb BUT it looks like a Cold white to me in the flesh and photographs, which i do not like. Is it possible to de activate or cover the cold white diodes on the PAR38 Bulbs?

So added some live rock rubble pieces to the rear chamber since I have to start again, again. Also ghost fed a little flake. Task for the bank holiday weekend is to find some netting to close the gap on the Fluval lid, I have experience of finding little Gobies Crispin up under the light

Also a poster spotted on way to work this morning, made me chuckle

So guys after some help, I have decided that I'm going to run the PAR38 bulb, so I need to hang it and work out light spill.

So I would like some recommendations for SPS corals that have great natural colouration under a more whitish spectrum

Thinking Bali Green Slimer
Montipora Setosa
My random Monti(superman)

So i did a rough PAR test with a Probe borrowed from my LFS, which not easy on a tank this small, must have looked like I was interviewing a Hermit Crab!!

Anyway with a PAR38 Bulb 6" off the surface the tank has a PAR range of 405 (Water Level) to 355 (Sandbed) so High Light and Low Flow Corals are needed.

Also how do you acclimate corals to an on/off light?

So sorry about the lockdown loss. That's a bummer. :(

I'm giving a go much the same. I had it up and running for about a year as a "copepod hotel" with chaetomorpha, and it was perfect. Took it down because I moved my copepods and chaetomorpha to a refugium linked to my main tank. I got inspired the other day looking at the tank sitting on the ground and then remembering I had the AI light leftover from when I put it inside a Giessman Spectra to add "moonlight" back when I was using MH on my display. Anywhooo . . . just a thought on a good SPS that a damsel will love. The venerable Bali Green Slimer which is ubiquitous in the US and which I swear would grow in muddy fresh water if given a chance. I ordered oolitic sand for mine and am waiting for it to arrive then I plan on putting a small ball of chaeto in, giving it a week or so and finally trying a chalice and a micromussa and a damsel. Also ordered one of those iPhone filter kits so hopefully I can take some better phone photos in the future.

Looking forward to seeing what you do with yours this time around.

Cheers,
Joe in NY

My light is actually set up this way. They adjust fine. They might just pout a little.

Thanks. Someone possibly famous or important once said
"Success is travelling from one failure, to the next, with no loss of enthusiasm" Which is pretty much what you see going on in this thread!

Losses could have been worse, thankfully everyone at work loves the Fish tanks so I had a lot of help tearing down and transporting stuff to my LFS for credit before lock down really hit. The Hermits were about the only things I lost, mainly since they hid in the rockwork caves. The issue is I can order stuff through my LFS now using this credit so it's dangerous. Especially since I have two very small tanks so need to be careful with frag sizes.

I have had a look at Bali Green Slimer and unless i can find a generous Reefer nearby, I'm looking at £45 for a 1.5" stub... Or I can pay £5 and get a Booger........

My light is actually set up this way. They adjust fine. They might just pout a little.

That is a relief thank you, so just bung them in. Thank god I was looking at all sorts of Acrylics and working out how much light they would block...

Cheap SPS Boogers that I can get my Hands on

Pavona's
Psammacora's
Hysterix
Monti Plates
Porites
Acro Efflo

So this is an experiment with Tap Water because I have always been interested in the claims about TDS, contaminants, etc and lets face it, i'm one that learns by staring at the remains of failed experiments rather than reading about it or taking "accepted knowledge" into account, so that's, that. I can get a Water Report for my Tap Water and have access to a TDS Machine. I have my set levels of what I willing to take as "acceptable risk" so make as much water as possible when these parameters are found and wait out the storms, rain, droughts, whatever wonderful weird weather we're having.

With that taken into account I would like to try and see what I can achieve growth wise with SPS, I do really enjoy the colours and its completely different from my Home Euphyllia Reef as I do not yet have something larger that I can rely on... yet. So Budget and boogers it it. £60.00 total (not including shopping) gets me the following 13 Boogers

SPS Collectors Pack.jpg

green polyped acro
blue montipora danea
green yellow montipora
rusty pavona
green montipora plate
orange montipora plate

4 Way Holder Deal.jpg

green lepto
orange monti
twin monti plates
green pavona

3 way holder deal.jpg

apple berry hystrix
green monti
acropora efflo

A Couple of the Frags might double up (Green Monti Plates) but other then that this looks promising. The Frag Plug Holders I have some of already but these will help the construction of the "Rockwork" for the 15 Gallon that I will convert from Freshwater once I move the livestock in the next couple of weeks I hope.
