2 Little Fishies Reactor growing algae

I have a 550 reactor from 2 little fishies. It is growing algae in the reactor from the spill over refugium light.

I know it doesn't really hurt anything persay, but is there any reason not to paint half the reactor black so light won't penetrate?

Go for it. Black high temperature spray paint for BBQs is a better paint to use than regular stuff. Best would be a two part marine epoxy paint.
