2 melanurus wrasses in a 125g??

so I am wondering. I have a melanurus wrasse. He was first in this tank. I also have purple tang, 2 clowns, yellow eye tang. Leapored wrasse. I have seen at fish stores that the melanurus wrasses they have super nice colors and was wondering the success rate of adding another I love my wrasse and I won't get rid of him for a nicer looking one. So I want two. So what's the risk?

I had two in a 75 and it didn't work. One would keep jumping into the overflow. I rehomed it and stuck with just one.

That sucks. I'm having trouble finding the difference in the ones at the fish store. Do they get color with age or sex. All the ones at store are at least an inch bigger then mine.

If you can determine if you have a male or female. You can try to get the other sex. I've heard that works ok.

Dont get me wrong he has good color but the other ones have super nice color they seem to have deeper color with strange shapes near head

Could be the foods you feed. What are you feeding?

I feed rods food along with frozen brine, frozen mysis, and two different flake food. Try to change it up through out the week. I also just started feeding live black worms.

Your fish is not a male yet. When they become a male they develop bright yellow color around the gill plates and generally brighter.

Yes, they transition from female to male. Yours has already begun it's transition. It is an initial phase male, it will continue to brighten up until it becomes a terminal phase male.

I would recommend against two melanurus to a tank, even if one is a male and one is a female. Females frequently transition to male, even if a male is present.

Yes, it happens with all wrasses, though with leopards, whether or not they transition is a lot less certain.
