Hi Everyone,
so i am sure this have been discussed multiple times on this site before but i am looking to upgrade my powerheads with vortechs and was wondering if i should go 2 mp10s or 1 mp40? the tank is a 72 gallon bowfront (4' long).
i would like to eventually upgrade to a 90 or 120 (eventually is key) so an mp40 would be nice here, but i hear that most people dont run the mp40's a full blast. so if i got an mp40 i may be dialing it back significantly.

i like the 2 mp10's just to create that back and fourth flow. but would 2 mp10s be sufficient when i do upgrade?
just trying to get peoples thoughts on this.
Right now i have two hydros and i dont like the bulky apperance of them, plus the controller that i have (hydro controller) doesnt give me the options like i would like. i either have total flow for periods, or alternating flow (which decreases my overall flow rate in half).

I have 1 mp40 on a 65 gallon tank set at about 70% power and the flow is incredible they are great powerheads
However I wish I had got 2 mp10s to create even more random flow
On a 120 tho I dont think the mp10 would have enough kick so its a tough choice im afraid
They do hold there value well, id be tempted to get 2 mp10s and when u upgrade swap one mp10 for an mp40, just depends what your cash flow is like because they are expensive

I run 2 MP40s on a 75gal. I would go with the MP40 for sure if you think there is a chance of upgrading your tank size.

I have 2 MP10s at max power on a 50 Gallon cube 24 x 24 - you will need the MP40s...

Go with the MP40's if in fact you want Vortechs. With the MP10's, you'd have to run them at or near 100% and that will cause for the dry side bearings to go that much quicker. I think they are an OK powerhead if you run them at 75% or less. The bearings seem to last a lot longer.

Now I have four Vortechs (3 MP40's and 1 MP10) and if I were setting up a tank today, I'd be looking at Jebao's.

The mp10 cant be as powerful as I thought if you have 2 of them on a 24 cube
Mp40s it is then

2 mp10s is nice, but the max glass thickness is 3/8". If you are going to upgrade to a 120 which coming has 1/2" glass the mp10 will not work. The mp40 is going to blow your mind compared to your hydors...you're making a good choice.

two MP 40's is a little bit out of my budget. I may try the one MP40 and see how it goes. if i need more flow i can always use my existing hydors. THanks for the comments everyone! Much Appreciated!

I have considering the MP 40 for my 55 gallon long and using other power heads for more flow until I can get a second unit glad to know about the glass thickness now cause I do plan on upgrading to a 90 or 120 gallon in a couple years
