Maybe my expectations were way off, but these things are unusable in any of the pulse modes. If the pumps are not pulsing they are dead silent. Any of the pulse modes sounds like I have a couple hundred crickets in the room. Is this normal?

Assuming they are brand new QD models, did you follow the installation instructions, including using the correct spacers and breaking them in? Also, check the alignment. The motor should feel like it’s running smoothly if the two sides are aligned properly.

Someone else made a post about their vortechs sounding like crickets, ended up swapping out the power supplies I believe.

As long as the wet side is aligned perfectly with the dry side, it should be silent up until you get about a foot away from the dry side. Any noise that makes me use the word 'loud' to describe it would definitely have me on the phone with EcoTech.

I followed the instructions to a T. It says the spacer is not required for over 6mm glass. (mine is 8mm). It does say to give it a week for breakin, but I dont see how it could quiet down that much. Both of them are making the same noise and I can hear them in the next room.

Brand new pumps? If so I think you're supposed to break them in on constant mode at low speeds and up the speed over time.

They are brand new. I could not find the break in procedure in constant in the manual

Mine are silent. You let the magnets line themself up with their own force yea?

Pssssh. I bought a new wet side about 6 months ago, threw it right in on 100% Reef Crest. Also, I line mine up by eye, you can check from literally every angle, assuming it's on clear glass..

Interesting, I’ve never done that fwiw and mine are silent out of the box.

Kinda what mine sounds like when it's out of alignment? Does it physically wobble/vibrate? Kinda difficult to hear it in the video.

I think the problem maybe with the actual product or the alignment. I have mine in the same place for quite some time but if I move it it takes some fine tuning to get it to stay silent as I feel the vibrations transfer from the glass. Once you get it hooked correctly I feel it is entirely silent ( of course I still hear mine when I put it on 100% ) but I don’t usually as I feel it’s bad for the glass as well as I sleep right next to my tank!
