If I add them all at the same time can I have 2 pairs of clownfish in a 20 gallon tank? there would be no other fish just clownfish

You can sometimes get away with 4 clowns if only 1 is a mature male and 1 is a female. They call them harems. However, with 2 females you're highly likely to have Battle Royale fights to the death.

Not enough room.
Territory is everything for these fish which do not normally stray more than 18” from home.

Ok thank you why is that tho?
My clown pairs tried to murder each other in a six foot 125 gallon tank when I had to combine tanks for few weeks. Ended up having to put a divider up since they went to town on each other

You can add different morphs. You can also get away with pairing different species like ocellaris and perculas. They key is adding an identified male and female together

Yes! Just dont mix maroons with percs or clarkiis/tomato clowns. But the storms and percs would work for example. For example my trio: thr bug one is a darwin, shes my female. Then the smaller white and black one is a black ice clown. Then the little orange one is a regular clown.

Well that was kind of by accident. Im transitioning to a 300 gallon and while I was working on plumbing my sea cucumber crawled into the pump and nuked my old tank. So it was an emergency to get them out. I had a female with the little orange one and I put them in an acclimation box and had to move my bigger two over there because I couldnt put them with my maroons. Overnight the male managed to jump into the acclimation box and killed the orange female. When I came down he was shaking at the little one and the little one was shaking back with the female doing the same thing outside the box. So I let him out with them to see what happened and they looked like they accepted him so I moved them to my biocube together since he didnt have a female anymore. Its been a month now of them being together and theres no sign of aggression towards him from either one. They actually chase off other fish like my dottyback that try to bully the small one. Still watching to see what happens but its looking good so far! I wouldnt recommend trying it though they could still turn and kill him like they did with his female! The whole thing has been super sketch and Im still not confident they wont turn on him honestly! I just decided to let it play out and see if they accept him since I couldnt find someone to take him and all my LFS were like nope we have too many clowns we dont want a rehomed one. Clown fights are NASTY though
