I posted yesterday but think it might have been in the wrong section .

on the 230 . Daily alk consumption is 2ppm
Using the calculator it says to dose 12.1ml

does this seam normal ?
Can you dose 12 ml at once ?
Is it best to dose multiple times per day ?
At what time ?

If it’s on an auto doser, I would break it up into many small doses throughout the day and night. If you do it by hand you can do it all at once. Eventually when the demand increases you’ll want it auto.

This assumes “the 230“ is 230 gallons or liters. If it’s a smaller tank, I would split the doses.

12ml appears to be accurate. Don’t know what impact that would have on your system.
Just watch your pH. Avoid a change over +- .20.

It’s always better to space your dosing increase stability, so either divide the dose or (best option) get a dosing pump.

230 gal
It’s only 12ml I have been manually dosing both cal and alk part in equal amounts .
but knowing it will increase eventually ...
I do have a dosing pump ,
I can use the dosing pump to set up smaller doses .

I do have a dosing pump .... and can set up to dose automatically .
How many doses would you suggest ?

that in mind ...
there really shouldn’t be any consumption after lights are out ?
Is it best to dose during the day ?

Just finished today’s testing .
Alk is down 4ppm instead of 2

After a week of 2ppm , is it normal to see gradual increased consumption ?

Since you’re talking ppm that‘s probably within the accuracy window. Take it again tomorrow at the same time and see.

The more small doses the better, but don’t go buy another pump just because it can do .0000000007 ml doses every half second. I’m sure the one you have is fine.
Most alk is used during the day, but some hobbyists dose at night to stabilize pH. My dosers drip 24/7.
I‘d find some tanks that keep what you want to keep and look the way you want yours to look and do what they do.
Reefing is part science (what one does has to be consistent within accepted parameters) and part art (how one does it can vary reef 2 reef).

Dose, watch, repeat. Your animals will tell you if you’re on the right track.

Having mostly all sps
And being years since I was at this point . I almost forget how and when to dose .

Are you sure you mean ppm? That's a very low demand. 2 ppm calcium carbonate equivalents is only 0.06 dKH.

You can certainly dose that all at once.

Using Hanna alk test
Instead of converting to dkh .
Yesterdays consumption doubled to 4ppm
Dosing 24ml is still not that much of a increase but question is
When to dose ? Or split it over 3-4 doses while lights are on ?
Dosing after lights out doesn’t seam right

When I would dose manually I would do it all at once, I usually would add it at night since that is when the pH of the tank drops. Now that I am using dosing pumps I have it spread out into 12 doses through the day and night.
Before I got my dosing pumps hooked up I was adding around 40 ml of diy 2 part all at once into a 125g tank without issue, and i suspect I could've gone considerably higher without issue.

If I were you I'd go ahead and hook up the dosing pumps and have it added evenly throughout the day as others have already suggested. You're probably going to use pumps anyway why not start using them now?

No need to split anything at these levels or anything close to it. These are small doses.

At 0.5 dKH per day, I'd start to consider 2 doses, or a pump.
