Ok so I have two questions. My first question is should I quickly get a cuc in my tank. I added a clownfish two days ago as my first fish. I’ve been feeding it kind of small portions and it still only eats about half of it so the rest goes around the tank. I don’t want my ammonia to spike from the shrimp decaying. I have some algae growing on the rock closest to the lights right now and it’s not that bad and I was wondering if that would be fine with keeping the tank in order while I look for a cuc. My second question is that my clown only stays in the back corner of my tank near the filter intake and barely moves away from that position. I will occasionally see it dart out randomly or swim across the back wall but he always returns to the corner. If I were to add an anemone to the tank do you think it would host that over the corner?

Since you dont have a large amount of algae I would hold off on adding large amounts of CUC. If you add some, make sure they're mostly scavengers that will go after uneaten food (nassarius/hermits/emerald etc)

Your second question is highly dependent on your clownfish as an individual. I had nems in the tank with my 3 year old clowns just about the entirety of their life and they only went into the nem after 2 years.
OTOH, we added 9 clowns to our office tank and within 2 days five of them were in the various nems in the tank.
Basically, its a crap shoot.

If you only have a little algae showing, I too would hold off on getting a CUC. But if you have to, a couple hermits wouldn't hurt. It would help in this area if you gave the size and age of your tank. Keep in mind, you have to go through ugly stages. Stages with brown algae, diatoms and green algae. It will look awful and you will hate it but its normal and healthy for your tank to go through this. Most people don't add any CUC until their tank looks like that. For reference, I will include a pic of what my tank looked like when I add a CUC.

Your clown could be fine. Mine hid for 2 or 3 months and has never in 2 years gone to the anemone. Its host is a hammer coral, go figure. Also with anemones you don't want to get one until your tank is at least a year old and stable.
