2 radion rx30 pros on a 2x2x2 cube

Spotlight not to your preference then.

Replace with LED strips. GHL, Current USA and Hamilton would be my first choices to look at, but there are others.

I talked to Radion about a similar issue on my 30x28" tank. They don't recommend it, way too much light. you'd have them at about 20-30% max intensity. What I want to do is add a couple retro T5s.

I'd go with the strips (GHL LightBar2's or CurrentUSA Orbit Marine Pro's, for example) instead if shadows are a concern. I think the LX7 should give better coverage than the radeons due to the pucks being spaced further apart, but it's still a spotlight and will generate more shadows than something in the strip form.

I'm assuming you have a G3 or older Radion? I'd say sell it and upgrade to the G4 if so... I just recently upgraded my G3 XR30 Pros to G4 Pros and couldn't be happier. It's a killer light and the new HEI optics eliminate the "hot spot" directly under the puck which spreads more par further. In addition to that, the added warm white and violet diodes really brings out the true color of my coral.

You wouldn't think going from G3 to G4 would be such a dramatic difference but it truly is.

A single XR30 G4 Pro should in theory be more suitable for your cube.

I faced the same problem on 60 cube with a gen3 radion. Added some t5 supplements, and fixed the problem ;)

Same. Although, I never added the t5s. Just retrofit a set of 4, imo. 2 in front and 2 in back. The 2nd radion will get rid of SOME of the spotlighting but not fill in the way you think it will. Just drop a few hundred on t5s and you'll be good to go.

I've probably been paying attention too long, but I'm confused by the recommendations...

I'd be looking hard at plenty of actual G4 deployments before assuming a spotlight no longer acts like a spotlight.

(If you had no problem with the prior version's level of shadows, however, I'm sure you'd like these at least as well.)

When you get the second Radion just orientate them with pucks front to back and you will be good.

You sure this isn't where you recommend an Orphek Atlantik? ;)

No he already has better stuff than orbit marine pro's, although pretty much anything is better.

That's what I'm talkin about! Gus! Gus! Gus! :D:D:D

I'm not saying that the G4's fully replicate the spread and or coverage that T5's provide. But I can say that it's one of the greatest LED advancements to date within the current LED range, which (does) happen to visually mimic the appearance of T5's.

With the individual HEI hemispherical (globe) lens protruding from the actual puck itself, they almost seem to act as multiple individual pucks closely grouped together if that makes sense? The light and colors appear diffused/blended together due to the angle in which the light is emitted from the protruded lens.

I'm not saying the G4's are for everybody and they don't fully eliminate shadowing but with the improvements made, the G4's worthy as an upgrade IMO. I've ran Kessil, AI, Orphek and Radion. Out of all, I would choose G4 Pro Radions any day mainly due to the spectrum and increased spread.

I still have my Orphek Atlantik V2 which is an incredibly powerful light but I felt like it never made my tank pop so I plan on selling it fairly soon. I also don't use Android products so controlling the light required me to purchase an Amazon Fire tablet which I had to root just to download the Google Play Store so I could install the Orphek app. Kind of a pain...

As far as the Mitras line goes, they've always been enticing as they seem to make quality lights but I've never really dove into the GHL/ProfiLux platform. I also haven't seen a tank lit with them in person for reference.

On a side note, EcoTech's superior customer service easily adds value to their products IMO. I love having a live person answer when I call in during their normal hours of operation. It gives you the added piece of mind in knowing that you can get a quick reliable response when troubleshooting or have warranty related questions.
