I currently have a 3" sailfin and a friend needs to rehome his 5" Desjardin sailfin. I have a 220g. What are my chances of this being okay?

Not very high. If you added several tangs at once you might have a better chance but still low.

I wouldn't recommend trying this. If you do want to roll the dice, use a social acclimation box.

There is always an exception to the rules. I consider myself a rule breaker with housing fish. The logical answer is not likely they will get along if one has been established and another one is introduced. However your best chance is to remove the one you have know to an acclimation box and put the new one in and give it about a week then put the original one back in. If you can re arrange some rock that will help. Good luck

I had a tomini tang that was best friends with a yellow tang.. everyone got along in my tank until I removed my clowns for them to have babies in a separate tank.. when I added the clowns back.. the tomini wasn't having it.. I had to eventually place the tomini in tang jail.. (sump) then I couldn't get him for the life of me.. I did a tank transfer and was able to capture the tomini and add him back to my dt and lost my yellow tang.. I shortly after added a Powder brown and the tomini and PbT are now best friends.. it's awesome to see them play.. and now everyone gets along great again.. maybe it's just luck but I have read several others post about having several tangs.. you could always watch really close and if they start going at it.. place the bully in a acclimation box or critter carrier and see if that helps.. good luck.. I say it's worth a try.. but I love tangs;)

I think you should be fine if the new tang is larger in size. Will probably get picked on the first couple of days, as long as they're able to handle the bullying. They'll soon realize, "hey I'm bigger than you, leave me alone" lol.
