I everyone! :)

I have a quick question... we are trying to get our 135g up and running (you've probably seen the threads with numerous questions previously... we are hopeless). Anyhow, the tank is a dual overflow tank, and the stand we have is pretty small space to work with.

I was wondering if anyone has ever tried using two sumps? Meaning, 1 for each overflow. I was planning on using 2 x 20g tanks or 2 x 10 tanks, having return pumps in both, large skimmer in one and a fuge in the other. Not connected except by the display. Plumbing with flexible tubing into one sump is hard with the room that I have.

Thanks!

Yup, lots of people have em set up that way. Works just the same as having one big one.

What happens in the event one pump fails? Won't one sump continue to pump water while the other overflows?

All depends on the other pumps capacity. If the other fails, you will lose that lil bit of water from that pump that died, hopefully keeping that one off line, but the other online. Tough one to set up, without having a line inbetween the 2. But, yea, typed before throwing that in there, can be done. Antisiphon holes drilled in different positions.

But if the overflow drains to both sides, how do you stop one from continuing to feed the dead pump sump?

Maybe I'm missing something

If it was me I would find a way to plumb a overflow connection so if one does fail at least it could fill both tanks before flooding

You are absolutely correct. I will rephrase, the sumps must be plumbed together. Reguardless, if the lower overflows pump would fail, it would overflow.

As long as you were using the same size tanks plumb them together up higher then you would keep the level in the sumps. Then if one fails you will be ok because once the water hits the conection it will only return with the volume of the one pump
