2 tanks one sump

I currently have 2 55 gallon tanks one fish only one a little coral and and fish. I am trying to figure out why the fish only tank is perfectly clear and the “reef” tank is milky. Once again filtered with same sump

Im just asking cause even though both tanks are using same sump the tanks can very much be different in many ways... I run two tanks off the same sumps and both tanks are uniquely different... I started everything at the sametime... just trying to get a background of how you started everything... the rock and sand came from the same source?

One is a year old and the other is 2 months old

Yes, I assumed since they are on the same sump the other wouldn’t cycle as bad

I don't think it is an issue with the cycling....it sounds like it is probably bacterial. Often new tanks take time to get the right balance which can cause bacterial blooms. UV would probably clear it up overnight but it should clear up on its' own.

Based on what you have shared I agree that it sound like a bacteria bloom. Usually cloudiness is caused by three things: sand that has been stirred up, micro bubbles from the skimmer, or a bacterial bloom. Good luck!
