Hi, i just got a new 40 breeder set up and I'm trying to figure out what I want to put in it while I wait for it to finish cycling.

Here's what I've been thinking:
Naked clown
Purple firefish
Yellow head jawfish
Flame or coral beauty angel
And then some sort of wrasse.

As I do want to keep corals I'm kind of considering 2 wrasses instead of an angel. Is it possible to keep 2 different wrasses together in a 40G breeder? If so what are my options?

Depends on the wrasses.

I had a 58 years back (same footprint, just deeper) with a Solarensis (Cirrhilabrus), Cyanopleura (Cirrhilabrus), Melanarus (halichoeres), and Radiant (halichoeres).

The fairy wrasses didn't seem to know the Halichoeres wrasses existed (and vice versa). There was some squabbling, between the congenerics - but not all that bad. I don't think I'd do it again - not as dense atleast- and the halichoeres might be too big for a 40.

Did you have specific fish you were planning on? If you said "I want a Fairy wrasse and a possum wrasse" I'd tell you to just do it - if you were asking about a sixline and a possum - or two male flashers, it'd be different.

I don't really have anything in specific in mind. I was thinking a Halichoeres like a yellow corris or a Christmas wrasse and then either a fairy, flasher, or possum. I am very open to ideas right now as I just started the cycle on the new tank. So I've got quite awhile to figure it out.

Just be careful and make sure the two fish have different niches.

Flashers and Fairies are open water feeders and swimmers. Halichoeres/Pseudochenelius/Wetmorella/Macropharngydon wrasses all hunt copepods/amphipods/microcrustaceans.

Okay sounds good. I'm going to look into more specific ones when I'm home from work. I'll ask some more questions about them when I find more specifics.
