Hello all, I don't do too many posts like this but I thought I'd share where I've been in the hobby. End of April 2017 I started this hobby again with a used RS-170 Reefer.

Finned inhabitants included a YT, Ocellaris Clownfish, a Kole Tang, bluespot goby, and a LMB. Corals were a Trumpet coral, Green slimer, and a 45 head Duncan. I had to drive down to Denver from Dillon, move the tank, water and all equipment and inhabitants up the hill for 70 miles to approximately 9500 feet where I lived at the time (Breckenridge CO). To add to the fun, I was renting an apartment at the time, it really wasn't the ideal time buy an aquarium but I couldn't resist... it was a really good deal.

Equipment consisted of a Hamilton 250 MH with T5 lights (Cebu Sun?) Some generic power heads, and a reef octopus skimmer.

At this point I began to add to my equipment list. I purchased a vortech MP40, a Tunze ATO, and a Radion G4 Pro.

Things were going great, until my aquarium began to leak September 2017.

At this time I purchased a new RS 250 because of the above thread. I was still living in a tiny apartment because I was ready to build a new house. Long story short, I had to move the tank another 1000 feet up the hill. Now my RS-250 was sitting in a condo on Baldy mountain, moved… again. After another 8 months, I moved the tank… again. This time to Dillon, CO in September 2018. Needless to say after so many moves it doesn’t lend itself to tank stability. At any rate, here it is currently:

Inhabitants:

OG Crew:

YT, Ocellaris Clownfish, Ocellated Dragonet

New Crew:

Potters Angel, 3 Disbar Anthias, linespot flasher, Velvet Fairy, Bonded pair of orange stripe gobies with tiger pistol shrimp, red cleaner.

Corals:

150 Head Duncan, Red Goni, Green Goni, some JF sticks, Montipora, stylophora, Garf Bonsai, Miyagi Tort, some acros, porites with worms, favia, acans etc.

Method:

I haven’t changed water in about 20 months (I carried all that water with me over 4 moves ;-). I follow Glenn F’s DSR method. I dose 2 part from BRS, and use a clarisea Gen 2 SK5000 filter. I also try to do ICP tests about every 3-4 months.

Lighting consists of 1 XR15 Pro, and 1 XR 30 Pro + 4 T5 10k bulbs. Mostly I’m focusing on SPS growth instead of color. Also my picture taking ability leaves a lot to be desired.

I forgot to ask what you are dosing? Did you get the dsr supplements or use substitutes. Glenn’s method really interests me. I’m using ati essentials, but had to go back to water changes.

BRS 2 Part for the regular stuff.

nightly .20 ML Iodine DSR
FE+ to remove Po4 (when needed) per DSR calculator
No3 (when needed) per DSR calculator
Potassium (ICP) 3 mos
Strontium (ICP) 3 mos
Boron (ICP) 3 mos

I overfeed my fish, like 2 cubes of frozen daily. My urchins are doing a decent job of keeping up with algae, my No3 is about 10 right now and Po4 is elevated too (.20). I'm running around 8.5 -> 9.0 dkh currently.

I purchased all the DSR from Holland. (https://www.seaflower.nl/)

As far as H20 changes go... there IS a learning curve with this method. If anything it teaches patience. You would be surprised what self corrects w/o water changes. I don't run Carbon or any other chemical media. I'm not holding my aquarium up as the DSR standard or anything. But I've at least proven that I can grow Montis and easier Acros with it.

Oh, and the aiptasia are being eaten en masse by Berghias ;-) Hopefully they will be gone in 3-4 weeks.
