I have not set up my brand new novo fusion 20 gallon aquarium but I was wondering do absolutely need bio media in the sump compartment?
I’m going to be using dry rock when aquascaping along with live sand. I’ll be using Dr. Tim’s quick cycle.
But where I’m confused, if my dry rock becomes live rock after the cycle, why am I hearing that I still need a bio media in my sump compartment, why or not?

I really wanna make this work. I have a strong passion for aqua life. Looking for sound advice.

The bio media can help keep nitrates in-check on AIO tanks - but no, you don’t need it. You can also run without a protein skimmer, but again - it’s one of those things that are recommended.

You can also use left over rock as your bio media in the back, like I do.
